‘I wanted to keep him’ – Real Madrid star confirms he swapped shirts with Blancos teammate

Real Madrid star Dani Carvajal has revealed that while he really wanted to keep his latest international shirt, he ultimately made the decision to swap it for another Los Blancos member.

Carvajal, for his part, is fresh off a Saturday night worth remembering.

The defender, who earned his place in Spain’s starting XI in the opening match of Euro 2024, put in another great performance as a right-back.

On the way to La Roja’s final 3-0 defeat at Croatia’s expense, Carvajal even managed to get on the scoresheet at the end of the first half.

After breaking free in the Croatian penalty area, the 32-year-old was picked out by a beautiful pass from Lamine Yamala, who passed Dominik Livakovic flawlessly.

Apart from its collective significance for Spain, it was a special moment for Carvajal from an individual point of view as he scored his first goal at international level.

In his post-match speech, the stopper revealed that he was keen to keep his match-worn shirt as a result.

Ultimately, however, Carvajal gave the same at the request of one of his teammates at club level.

“I wanted to keep my shirt because it was my first goal for the national team,” began the former Bayer Leverkusen player, quoted by Relevo. “But Luka (Modrić) asked to change the shirts, so of course I did it.”
