While people from all over the world have watched a Columbus coffee roaster win medal after medal for their special beans, you too can soon enjoy a cup of their award-winning coffee, specially brewed by them.

Bryan Brzozowski first started roasting coffee in his home on a sample roaster. “Things got out of hand, in a good way,” he laughed. During the pandemic, he and his wife Beth decided to upgrade to a commercial roasting space, and they started the concept Royal Flamingo coffee.

Initially, people could only find this coffee at farmers markets, events, and e-commerce. The bright pink bags of coffee are hard to miss! After Royal Flamingo Coffee won the gold medal for their CM Red Fruits Espresso at the world’s largest coffee competition (The Golden Bean North America), demand understandably grew.

Starting this weekendyou don’t have to brew your own Royal Flamingo Coffee at home! The concept is opening their first permanent coffee shop, tucked away in Natalie’s Pizza in Grandview, sharing a space with the new cocktail bar, I Like It Like That.

By day, it’s a serene coffee shop serving up some of the best coffee in the world, literally. There’s indoor and outdoor seating, complete with Wi-Fi and even a dog-friendly patio. “I hope it becomes a place to have meetings, meet friends, bring your family — our seating is for everything,” Bryan noted. By night, the space transforms into the trendy new cocktail bar, I Like It Like That.

The symbiotic relationship and collaboration between the two concepts “is perfect,” Bryan emphasized. Royal Flamingo will incorporate the cocktail bar’s house-made syrups into its drinks, and there will still be traces of Royal Flamingo Coffee in the evenings, even as the bar takes over, with espresso in I Like It Like That’s cocktails.

Experienced, more adventurous coffee drinkers can enjoy the carbonation macerations and complex pour overs, but Bryan said the drinks at Royal Flamingo Coffee will also be accessible to those new to specialty coffee. For those who simply can’t get enough caffeine, try the Barista Boilermaker — a shot of espresso with a batch brew — or the Barista Breakfast — a shot of espresso, a flat white, and a batch brew.

Try all this and more by starting with this Friday July 5, from 8am to 2pmbee 945 King Ave. They are now open Wednesday through Sunday from 8am to 2pm! You won’t find them at farmers markets for a while, but you can still pick up a bag of beans in their retail space in their new store.
