Portuguese star Bruno Fernandes has sent an emotional message to his Manchester United team-mate, who recently extended his stay at Old Trafford after signing a new contract.

Bruno Fernandes is currently away at Portugal’s Euro 2024 training camp in Germany, with the Manchester United star playing a key role for his country.

The 29-year-old Red Devils captain has featured in three of Portugal’s four matches at this year’s European Championships so far, with Fernandes scoring in the 3-0 win over Turkey.

Fernandes was a substitute in the shock 2-0 Group F defeat to Georgia before returning to the starting XI for the round of 16 clash with Slovenia.

Portugal, one of the tournament favourites, secured their place in the quarter-finals by defeating a brave Slovenia in a penalty shootout.

Fernandes joins United teammate Diogo Dalot and club legend Cristiano Ronaldo to represent Portugal in the UEFA tournament.

Fernandes sends message to Man Utd teammate

Manchester United confirmed on Tuesday that former England international Tom Heaton had signed a new contract with the Red Devils.

Tom Heaton, who has taken up a role in England’s training camp ahead of Euro 2024, returned to his hometown club United in 2021 after leaving Aston Villa.

The 38-year-old experienced goalkeeper was a member of the Red Devils’ youth academy but failed to break into the United first team during his first spell at the club.

Heaton is one of three goalkeepers for Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford, alongside Turkey international Altay Bayindir and Cameroon star Andre Onana.

Bruno Fernandes has posted a moving response on Instagram about the United goalkeeper signing a new contract with the Red Devils.

“You deserved it, great man,” he wrote, adding a heart emoji.

Heaton on signing new Man Utd contract

Since returning to Old Trafford, Heaton has made three appearances, including making his debut for the club in the 2021 Champions League against Young Boys.

Erik ten Hag has teamed up with the former Burnley star for the 2022-23 League Cup campaign and has featured Heaton in victories over Charlton Athletic and Nottingham Forest.

Speaking about his new contract, Heaton told Manchester United’s official website: “I’m delighted to be continuing to work for the club I grew up at.

“I feel like I’m still in great shape and I’m ready to give the team everything they need in the upcoming season.

“Apart from what happens on the pitch, I am also learning a lot off it, which influences my next steps, whatever they may be.

“But most of all, I want to motivate the team to continue last season’s success.”
