Deadpool is already set to take the Marvel Cinematic Universe by storm with his third big screen film, and he won’t be alone, as he’s bringing Wolverine along for good measure in the potentially universe-changing adventure. However, the director of Deadpool and Wolverine hints that audiences should prepare for plenty more surprise appearances in the film, beyond the two that have already been revealed or teased.

“Who’s next?”

Shawn Levy teased fans in an interview with Entertainment Weekly about the sheer number of cameos that will be taking place in the latest theatrical installment of the MCU, simply saying that there will be “a lot of characters.” He didn’t go into much more detail beyond saying that the cameos will be “spread throughout” Deadpool and Wolverine’s runtimes and that audiences should keep their eyes peeled.

He added that while there will be a lot of cameos, they are not the focus of the film.

“We didn’t want the cameos or the characters to be the story of the movie,” Levy said. “But they’re all over the place. There are a lot of characters. The Internet is a treat for rumors about the multitude of character cameos in this movie. Some of the rumors are true, some of them are completely false.”

Two characters already known for the film are Aaron Stanford’s Pyro and Tyler Mane’s Sabretooth.

Cameos, cameos and cameos

Stanford first played Pyro in the 2003 X-Men sequel, X2, where he was Iceman and Rogue’s hot-headed friend who joined the pair and Wolverine in escaping Xavier’s school after it was overrun by William Stryker’s forces. He slowly begins to embrace his “fiery” side, eventually allying himself with Magneto and eventually becoming one of his trusted lieutenants in X-Men: The Last Stand.

Tyler Mane’s only appearance in the X-Men franchise as Sabretooth was in the original 2000 X-Men as a member of Magneto’s Brotherhood of Mutants alongside Toad and Mystique. As in the comics, he fought Wolverine at multiple points in the film before ultimately being defeated with help from Jean Grey and Cyclops during the final confrontation with Magneto at the Statue of Liberty.

Sabretooth was also portrayed by Liev Schreiber in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, where he and Wolverine are presented as half-brothers.

Rumors have been circulating the internet for months about who else might appear.

One of the longest-running rumors has been that Jennifer Garner would appear in Deadpool and Wolverine as Elektra Natchios, who she played in both Daredevil and Elektra. In July 2023, The Hollywood Reporter reported that she would reprise the role for the film, though there has never been any direct confirmation from Marvel Studios, Disney, or anyone associated with Deadpool and Wolverine.

Additionally, fans have been scouring Deadpool and Wolverine’s marketing materials to see if they can spot any of the film’s other cameos. Some of the characters fans have claimed to have spotted in the trailers and ads include Lady Deathstrike, Azazel, and Toad, with many more characters potentially hiding in plain sight.
