Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella is in his role as sporting director as he tries to convince the talented winger to join the Blues.

Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella has revealed he has made efforts to convince Athletic Club winger Nico Williams to join the west London club rather than Barcelona.

Williams was one of the standout stars of the European Championship. He and Cucurella formed a formidable left-wing partnership for Spain, combining to terrify defences, and the Chelsea defender wants them to continue their partnership in the Premier League.

Barcelona youngster Lamine Yamal has come out in defence of the Spanish national team after the former Arsenal star branded them small and inexperienced.

Days after Osimhen criticised the former Super Eagles coach on Instagram, he has achieved a new milestone on the platform.

What is Cucurella?

In a conversation with journalists before the quarter-final match against Germany, the hosts of the European Championship, Cucurella spoke only highly of his compatriot.

He has hailed him as a star of the present and future and believes he would be a great signing for any team that manages to sign him this summer, particularly Barcelona who have been heavily linked with him.

However, the wiry-haired winger would prefer younger brother Williams to join him at Chelsea and has been trying to convince him to do so.

“He would be a great signing (for Barcelona), but it all depends on what he wants,” Cucurella said, according to Football Espana. “I told him to sign for Chelsea… In the end, it all depends on him. He’s very young, with a lot of experience. I think he’ll be a great player.”

Meanwhile, Williams has repeatedly stressed his desire to remain at Athletic Club, saying he is happy there despite a wave of transfer speculation.
