Leeds United sold Archie Gray to Tottenham this week for a £40million fee, and he has left the club with the well-wishes of everyone involved, including his ex-Leeds teammates.

The Whites have a huge hole to fill in their squad this summer as the departure of Archie Gray was confirmed this week to Tottenham.

Gray, despite only being 18, was a key part of the side that was almost promoted back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

Junior Firpo sends message to Tottenham’s Pedro Porro amid Archie Gray news

Leeds parted with Gray to the tune of £40million to make him one of the most expensive 18-year-old transfers of all time this week.

He shared a heartfelt message to say goodbye to Leeds, followed by this post to react to his arrival at Tottenham, via his Instagram:

“So grateful to be at this massive club, I am so excited for this opportunity and can’t wait to get started and give my all to Tottenham and play in front of you fans, see you all soon. COYS”

Selling Archie Gray for £40m, good or bad business?

Among those wishing the midfielder well was Junior Firpo, who had a message not for Gray but for his new teammate Pedro Porro:

“Take good care of him”

To which Porro replied:

“Always brother”

Gray is in for an exciting introduction to the Premier League

Of all the managers you’d want to see Gray play under next season, Ange Postecoglou would be high on the list for sure.

Having sold Gray now, we can look at his move to Spurs and expect big things from him under a manager who plays attractive football in a way that perfectly suits Gray.

Of course, it would have been miles better if he stayed here, but he’s made a very good choice for his career going forward anyway.
