It’s amazing that people still try to perform this trick in a bar or at a roller rink, but surprisingly some people think they’ll have success with it.

Newsflash: It’s 2024 and we’re fed up.

For some reason, there are people who think a little squeeze (or a big squeeze) on the butt is a compliment, but that mentality is so old fashioned.

And yet there are people who still do it!

I was at the Rainbow Rink in North Tonawanda with my friend and his family when a man about 40 years older than me came up behind me and pinched my butt.

That is inappropriate.

If you’ve ever experienced this, you probably felt like there was nothing you could do. Did anyone see it happen? Where did that person run to? Are they still on the court or at the bar?

While some people may try to convince you that a “booty squeeze” is a compliment and should be treated as such, don’t be fooled.

In New York State, if someone slaps you on the butt or pinches your rear end, it is considered a crime.

New York law on forced touching

According to the law firm of Stephen Bilkis & Associates and under the New York Penal Code, a person committed violent touching “if you intentionally touch another person’s sexual or intimate parts without a legitimate reason or to obtain sexual gratification.”

The law specifically states that touching is “pinching, grabbing or pinching,” and this can include the buttocks.

If someone is convicted of violent touching, they can be sentenced to up to a year in jail. It is a class A misdemeanor, and unlike other crimes that are similar in nature, it is not considered a felony.

So don’t make your move by pinching someone’s ass. There are other, more appropriate ways to express your interest in someone, and here are some ideas:

  • Ask the person questions and show that you are interested in his/her life.
  • Skip the opening line (unless it’s so cheesy and funny that you both laugh). It’s better to use an original opening.
  • Don’t try to impress, because that usually fails. Eventually the mask falls off, so you just have to be yourself.
  • Don’t ask for their number… give them yours. That way the ball is in their court and they don’t feel pressured to give you their number right away. Giving them time to think about reaching out is different than what’s usually done and could get you noticed!
  • Feel free to give a compliment, but don’t just do it about the appearance (for example, about the smile, the way someone tells stories, the excitement in the eyes, etc.). People like it when you pay attention to them.

While I’m no expert on dating, I can assure you that these 5 methods will help you do more than leave you with an unwelcome feeling of helplessness.
