HOWARD, Wis. (WFRV) – The Fourth of July is just around the corner and area residents are stopping by fireworks stores to make their purchases, including Uncle Sam Fireworks in Howard.

“Every year we stop here to stock up on fireworks,” said Jeremy Sodam.

Some people focus on the sound fireworks make, while others are looking for a quieter display.

The latter was the case for Ryan Kamin, who visited American Tradition Fireworks in Sobieski.

“We have a lot of kids coming to our party,” Kamin said. “We try to do things that are more sparkly and colorful. Less popping, less banging. We try to keep them from running away screaming, hopefully.”

But before you set off fireworks, firefighters advise you to exercise caution.

“The safest thing to do is generally not to let kids handle fireworks. Don’t let them play with them,” said Ashley Degreef, Public Relations Coordinator for Suamico Fire. “But if they are using the sparklers, keep them away from them so they don’t get caught on their clothing or anything like that.”

Don’t just throw the fireworks in the trash when you’re done.

“At the end of the night, when you’re done with the fireworks, you just throw everything in a container of water and empty it the next morning,” Degreef said.
