One last hurrah, if you will.

As Florida’s ban on “lab-grown” meat goes into effect next week, the Associated Press reports that Upside Foods, the company that invented the world’s first cultured meatballs, hosted a tasting in Miami last week. The U.S. will approve “cell-grown” meat in June 2023.

According to AP, “Florida and Alabama earlier this year banned the sale of cultured meat and seafood, which are grown from animal cells. Other states and federal lawmakers are also seeking to restrict them, saying the product can harm farmers and pose a safety risk to the public.”

Gov. Ron DeSantis, backed by local ranchers, signed the ban in May. Upside Foods CEO Uma Valeti criticized the decision, saying officials never consulted the company and stressing the proven science and safety of cultured meat.
