Final Destination creator Jeffrey Reddick is teaming up with producer Todd Slater on a new horror film, Bloody Mary: Origin.

The urban legend’s twist is based on a New York Times best-seller, Mary: The Summoning. Deadline had exclusive rights to this story.

What is Bloody Mary: Origins about?

The story of the book follows a group of teenage girls who discover an ancient spell that summons the real Bloody Mary. When the terrifying entity pulls one of the girls through the mirror, she is trapped in the past, where she finds herself in the final days of the real Mary Worth. With time running out, the others must find a way to save their friend in the past while also defeating a terrifying Bloody Mary in the present.

Emmy Award winner Lane Shefter Bishop (The Venice Murders) has been hired as director. She will also produce through her Vast Entertainment banner. Todd Slater will produce through Convoke Media, along with DreamPunk Entertainment’s Ryan Martin and Angela Ziegler.

Reddick co-wrote the script with the late John Stancari. The film will be dedicated to his memory.

Todd Slater praised Reddick’s script in a statement. He said, “The script brings Reddick’s signature blend of suspense, humor and horror to a whole new take on the urban legend my friends and I played out as kids. Just as Final Destination created a theatrical franchise that generations have enjoyed, our goal is for Bloody Mary to generate ongoing films with the same impressive longevity.”

Reddick has overseen his Final Destination franchise for nearly 25 years. A new installment titled Final Destination: Bloodlines is in the works for New Line for its 25th anniversary next year.
