Yes, the football at Euro 2024 is the focus, but for some, it’s really all about the fashion. We’ve seen some great (and terrible) headgear, retro looks and some individuality when it comes to footwear.

These are the winners and losers from some of the most memorable moments from Euro 2024.

Winner: Headband by Riccardo Calafiori

Riccardo Calafiori has done his bit to bring back the nostalgia this summer, even amid a disappointing Euro 2024 campaign for title holders Italy.

The 22-year-old has revived the thin headband to hold long locks in place, made famous by iconic Italian defenders of the past.

Forget the grizzled faces of Leonardo Bonucci and Giorgio Chiellini, we’re talking about the lithe, immaculate-looking defenders of the Azzurri’s past, who come off the pitch without a single spot of grass and would be equally at home on the catwalk.

Paolo Maldini, before hair loss Fabio Cannavaro, Alessandro Nesta. Calafiori is in good company. He keeps Calcio’s central defensive culture alive.

Loser: Luciano Spalletti’s vest/jacket

Is it a jacket? Is it a vest? We may never know.

Italians are often at the forefront of fashion, but this hybrid creation is a miss.

Sure, the ITALIA on the back gives a classic look, but on the back of a blazer? Or is it a vest? We’re still confused.

Winner: Spain’s match training suit

Adidas are certainly making waves this summer with their vintage looks and the Spain kits for the match are top class.

La Roja went back to the nineties with this outfit. Those sweatpants are an absolute beauty.

Loser: Iannis Hagi’s hairnet

If you have a European Championship match against the Netherlands at 5pm and a service at Greggs later in the evening…

A sausage roll and a steak please, Iannis.

Winner: Jasir Asani’s Super Mario Boots

Of course, the black boot brigade will crucify us for this and we can’t even imagine how Roy Keane would react if Albania’s Jasir Asani entered the dressing room wearing these boots.

But they are different – and that’s what we’re here for.

We all love a bit of Super Mario, right?

Loser: The Braids of Marcel Sabitzer

Marcel Sabitzer channeled his inner Sean Paul as Austria lost to Turkey in the round of 16.

Sabitzer certainly likes to keep Ralf Rangnick’s midfield busy, but it was Rocka-bye for the Austrians who were knocked out in the early knockout rounds. The 30-year-old’s braided barnet certainly caused a stir and deserves some unwanted recognition on our losers’ list here.

Maybe we should let it breathe.
