Salman Butt: ‘We are not working with Pakistan’s best winning leg-spinners Usman (Qadir) and Usama Mir despite their domestic performances’

Former captain Salman Butt believes Usman Qadir and Usama Mir are the “best leg-spinners in Pakistan” and wonders why they are not getting a chance to play international cricket.

Currently, Shadab Khan is the team’s first-choice spinner but he has not been able to take a wicket at international level since Pakistan’s five-match T20I series against New Zealand in April 2024.

In the 2024 T20 World Cup, the 25-year-old from Mianwali failed to take a wicket in four matches and did not even play in Pakistan’s matches against India and Canada.

Salman, therefore, admitted that he was “concerned about Pakistan’s lack of common sense” in selection.

“I am concerned about Pakistan’s lack of common sense. Shadab had just bowled 4 overs twice in 2024 before the World Cup. We continue to call him a package without defining his role. We are not working with Pakistan’s best match-winning leg-spinners Usman (Qadir) and Usama Mir despite their domestic performances,” he was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.

Pakistan lost to the United States of America and India in the T20 World Cup before bouncing back to beat Canada and Ireland.

Despite a positive end to the group stage, the men in green failed to secure their place in the Super Eight.
