Jamie Foxx is revealing new details about the unspecified “medical complication” he experienced last year.

In an undated video circulating on social media and posted by accounts including @ArtOfDialogue_, the Oscar-winning actor appeared to discuss the circumstances surrounding the health issue that has forced him on a months-long road to recovery with some fans.

Foxx, 56, said in the video that on April 11, 2023, he started having a “severe headache” and “asked my son for an Advil.” Then “I was gone for 20 days.”

He continued: “I don’t remember anything. I’m in Atlanta … My sister and my daughter took me to the first doctor. They gave me a cortisone shot. The next doctor said, ‘There’s something going on there.'”

Foxx pointed to his head before explaining that he didn’t want to go into further detail “on camera.”

USA TODAY has reached out to Foxx’s representative for comment.

Jamie Foxx promised to explain health risk ‘in a funny way’

In March, Foxx referenced his health risk in 2023 while accepting the producer award at the African American Film Critics Association awards ceremony.

“Everybody wants to know what happened, and I’m going to tell you what happened, but I’ve got to do it my way,” Foxx said, according to a video of the speech uploaded to YouTube. “I’m going to do it in a funny way.”

Foxx also announced his return to the stage by sharing an old clip of his stand-up comedy on Instagram, telling fans he plans to bring “more moments like this.”

“I’m gonna be on stage somewhere near you,” Foxx wrote. “I’ve got some jokes and a story to tell.”

What happened to Jamie Foxx?

After sharing updates about his recovery on Instagram, Foxx made his first major public appearance in December to accept the Vanguard Award at the Critics Choice Association’s Celebration of Cinema & Television: Honoring Black, Latino and AAPI Achievements.

He then admitted that six months earlier he “basically couldn’t walk.”

“It feels good to be here,” he said. “I’m cherishing every minute now. It’s different. I wouldn’t wish what I went through on my worst enemy, because it’s hard when it’s almost over. … I saw the tunnel. I didn’t see the light. It was hot in that tunnel too; I don’t know where I was going.”

Foxx joked, “Am I going to the right place? I can see the devil saying, ‘Come on.'”

On April 12, her daughter Corinne Foxx revealed that the “Ray” actor had “a medical complication” and was recovering.

“Thankfully, thanks to quick action and great care, he is already on the road to recovery,” she wrote in a since-deleted Instagram post. “We know how loved he is and appreciate your prayers. The family asks for privacy at this time.”

A few months later, in July, Jamie Foxx posted a video on social media to show his fans that he was doing better.

“I didn’t want you to see me with tubes coming out of me and wondering if I was going to make it,” he said in a July 21 Instagram post. “I’ve been through hell and back and my road to recovery has been full of potholes too, but I’ll be back.”

He added: “It was tough, man; I was sick. But now I’ve got my legs under me, so you’re going to see me.”
