OSCEOLA, Mo. – “The second annual sheep and goat field day is less than two weeks away,” said David Brown, MU Extension Livestock Specialist in Small Ruminants. This event focuses on the health awareness program for sheep and goat farmers. Brown encourages participation as this will be a remarkable opportunity for producers to gain invaluable insights, learn more about disease prevalence, its causes and control, as well as the latest research developments, and network with fellow livestock enthusiasts.

The event will take place on July 12 at the SW MU Research Extension and Education Center, 14548 Highway H, Mount Vernon, MO 65712. The event will begin at 10 a.m. and run until 4 p.m.

Below, Brown further outlines the planned activities during the event and why attending the field day will be important for your sheep and goat business.

  1. Presentations by experts: Producers will hear from Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and industry experts. They will share their knowledge on disease prevention and control, best management practices and innovative techniques.
  2. Practical demonstrations: Producers will participate in fecal egg counting demonstrations, FAMACHA training and certification, and five-point verification.
  3. Networking capabilities: There will be the opportunity to connect with other producers and industry professionals to exchange ideas and experiences and build valuable relationships.
  4. Marketing strategies: Basic marketing concepts for the sale of sheep and goats and their products are discussed.
  5. Cooking lamb demo: Producers learn five cooking techniques for preparing lamb.
  6. Exhibition: A showcase of innovative products and services from leading industrial suppliers.
